If we were to say that our Et Cetera 2012 was a complete success, we’d probably sound kind of arrogant if it weren’t for the fact that it’s totally true. Thanks to the hard work of our committee members and our helpful volunteers, 25th April was a complete success. Did I mention it was a complete success? Because it bears repeating. Twice. Oh, what the hell. Three times. Et Cetera 2012 was a complete success!

A week before the event and our tickets were passing hands like banknotes; people were calling our ticket sellers, frantic to get their hands on our dwindling tickets – not dissimilar to the rush for a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket. We had pretty much sold out a day before the event, and the MCEC during H-day was bursting at the seams with people bounding in. The majority of the audience arrived at around 7 despite the show beginning close to two hours earlier. It’s all fine and good. PPIA understands; the Indonesians have a need to be remembered as fashionable late-comers.

The late-comers may have missed some awesome things, though. In the beginning was Ron Kingston, kicking off the night with warm, dulcet tones. And then came the Putra Panji Asmara, who is a testament to how much Indonesian culture has affected Melburnians – this multicultural ensemble performed beautifully the gamelan, and their Tari Topeng Cirebon is energetic and colorful and everything a dance should be.

The most awaited moment came when Trio Lestari presented themselves on the stage, starting with Glenn, then Tompi, and finally the long-awated Sandhy. They completely charmed the audience with their voices; from Glenn’s comfortable tones to Tompi’s Mariah Carey-esque modulations of voices, blended with Sandhy’s low hypnotizing cadence. Together with Desta the MC, the Trio displayed a particular brand of quirky comedy, combining the politics and the raucous, that’s sure to be remembered.

There’s really nothing more to be said, so let’s repeat just one more time: thanks to everyone’s efforts, Et Cetera 2012 is a complete success.
